It is one of the Sacred months in Islam when fighting is prohibited. The month is known for its many virtues and benefits. Fasting in Shaban is one of the most suggested activities during the month. Shaban meaning finds its roots in the stories of Arab tribes who used to separate and look out for water.

Benefits of Fasting in Shaban

They dispersed in order to find water and brace themselves from the heat following Shaban. It is believed that fasting in the month helps a person seek forgiveness from Allah. Muslims prepare for the long fasting days of Ramadan in the month by eating nutritious food and occasionally fasting during Shaban. The month is best for planning good deeds and performing charity. Scholars suggest that good deeds done in Shaban can be enjoyed in Ramadan. The month is also famous for the celebration of the 15th of Shaban or Shab-E-Barat.  

Significance of Shaban 

Being one of the four sacred months in Islam, Shaban is the month in which fasting Muslims can seek Allah’s rewards and blessings. Further, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was seen fasting regularly during the month of Shaban. It is the month in which the 56th verse or Surah Al Ahzab of the holy Quran was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). It also marks the splitting of the moon and the changing of the Qiblah. The corresponding significance is that a great deed during this month may increase the chances of receiving favors and forgiveness from Allah.  

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: ‘When it is the night of the middle of Sha’ban, spend its night in prayer and observe a fast on that day. For Allah descends at sunset on that night to the lowest heaven” – Sunan Ibn Majah.

Benefits of fasting in Shaban  

Fasting is one of the most rewarding things to do in the month of Shaban. Fasting in Rajab and Shaban is believed to fetch more blessings during Ramadan. Shaban fasting also prepares one for the long fasting days of Ramadan. It helps the body utilize the nutrients in a balanced way. Being a sacred month, the virtues of fasting in Shaban also get enhanced multiple times.  

What are the advantages of Shaban month? 

Performing good acts and praying to Allah is more rewarding than any other month. There are many benefits one is able to enjoy in the Shaban month. The most notable are:

Month when Allah forgives

Allah, the All-merciful, forgives His creations when they offer sincere prayers with regret. Allah accepts all offerings with reverence. One must be aware of their sins, with trust in Allah’s forgiveness, and perform the necessary acts like prayer, reciting the Quran and doing Sadaqah. Another form of doing good deeds is offering pure advice to the one in need or providing guidance to the young. So pray a lot and achieve significance and benefits of fasting.

 Prayers are answered

Prayer is the ideal way to communicate with Almighty Allah to feel peaceful and content. The Almighty is pleased and raises the duas recited and sincere prayers offered in Shaban. Angels record the prayer of an individual and then recount the happenings they witness on the planet earth for Allah. Not just prayers, the angels also record the good deeds and present them in front of Allah. The more the good deed under the name of an individual, the better are the chances to avoid hellfire.  

 Shab-e-Barat 

The 15th day of Shaban or Shab-e-Barat is known as the day that Qibla was transferred from the Mosque within Jerusalem to the Mosque situated in Makkah. The 15th of Shaban is a time for people to ask for forgiveness of those who have passed away. Shaban is a month when positive actions are highlighted and revealed to Allah the All-knowing. So, prayer for forgiveness and blessings opens the way towards Jannah (Heaven). People can also fast on the 15th of Shaban, but it’s not required to fast on Shab-e Barat.  

 

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: 

 

“This is the 15th night of Shaban. Almighty Allah turns towards His servants on the 15th of Shaban and forgives those who ask for His forgiveness, grants mercy to those who ask for it, and delays (punishing or bringing to account) the evil people.”  

 

Shaban in 2022: Shaban in 2022 will begin from 3rd March and last till 1st April. Muslims around the world can start celebrating the month from the sunset of 3rd March till the sunset of 1st April. Additionally, Shab-e-Barat will be observed on 18th March this year.  

Significance And Benefits of Fasting: Shaban is considered to be the month for repentance and showing gratitude and seeking the blessings of Allah. This is the month for preparation and amending before Ramadan.
