Mandatory Home Maintenance Tips

As a homeowner, you are responsible for maintaining your house in all seasons. Here are some essential tips for home maintenance that you need to do regularly.

Assess Your Roof

Make it a priority to have your roof assessed at least once a year. While you are at it, you might want to check for missing tiles or any missing shingles. If you have never climbed on your roof before, we recommend that you leave it to the handyman. But, on the safe side, you might want to have a drone fly over the roof and assess the roof from the safety of the grounds.

The thing about the roof is that when things go undetected up there, it can cause serious damage to the home structure. Also, cracked tiles can lead to a damp roof, which can further damage your property and you might have to spend loads of money on roof replacement.

To avoid such issues, you might want to ensure to have your roof regularly assessed so your house is well-maintained in all seasons of the year.

When it comes to the winters, and you live in a stormy area, you will want to have your roof assessed after a storm or hailing. That said, you must inspect your roof and gutters. Clean the gutters after each storm. You don’t need to hire someone to clean the gutters as you can do it yourself.

All you need is a pair of gloves and a bucket. You can use your hands or a tool to get the leaves and debris from the gutters.

Check Your Water System

There are certain tell-tale signs that the water or sewerage system is damaged, and you might need a plumber to assess your house. Few of the tell-tale signs include the following:

  • Brown Water
  • Clogged Toilet
  • Clogged Drains
  • Slow Drains
  • Low Water Pressure

When it comes to plumbing problems, you might want to opt for french drain installation, and get things fixed. The thing about plumbing issues that they often go undetected. And if you don’t have them fixed instantly, you will have to spend loads of money to have the water system fixed.

Assess the Windows & Doors for Cracks

Ideally, you will want to keep pests off your property in all seasons. When it comes to the winters, you might want to assess the doors and windows for potential cracks and crevices as these can serve as the perfect gateway for pests to enter your house. In the winter, you can also save on your utility bills by preventing cold air from entering your house and the warm air from leaving your house.

The best part is that you can do a DIY home renovation project, and use a good caulker to seal the cracks around the windows and doors. In the summers, you will be dealing with summer pests, such as bugs, mice, and roaches; speaking of which, you might want to ensure that all potential gateways to your house are sealed.

For the summers, you might want to Hire a Mechanic and have your HVAC system checked.
